“The Cheese and the Worms” by Ginzburg | Book Review

Ginzberg explores a 16th century Italian miller’s heretical beliefs. That’s all it’s, however it goes fascinatingly in-depth. The miller, named Domenico Scandella or just Menocchio, possessed a surprisingly silly theology.

Wiki: The Cheese and also the Worms (Italian: Il formaggio e i vermi) is really a scholarly work through the Italian historian Carlo Ginzburg. It is really a notable illustration of cultural history, a brief history of mentalities and microhistory.[citation needed]

It examines the beliefs and world-look at Menocchio (1532–1599), also referred to as Domenico Scandella, who had been an Italian miller in the village of Montereale, twenty-five kilometers north of Pordenone. His philosophical teachings earned him the title of the heresiarch throughout the Inquisition and that he was eventually burned in the stake in 1599, at age 67, on purchases of Pope Clement VIII
