I’m sure the name Stephen McGown rings a bell to many South Africans and indeed many people around the World. But in case you have forgotten who he is, let me put you in the picture.
Stephen McGown holds the unenviable record of being militant group Al Qaeda’s longest held prisoner.
The South African was kidnapped by al-Qaeda from the Mali tourist town of Timbuktu in 2011 and was held prisoner for six years.
Well, he has since launched a book titled Six Years With Al Qaeda: The Stephen McGown Story.
He joins us now via Zoom from Johannesburg
