Happy new year everybody…
At the start of a new year it seems perfect to review a book focused on getting over business or even personal obstacles.
Seth Godin is a favourite of mine, is a marketing guru and best-selling author. And wrote ‘The Dip’ in 2007 on a topic that will always be current.
Seth says what sets entrepreneurs apart from anyone else, is their ability to give up quickly on dead ends, whilst staying motivated and persevering to motor on through dips.
Every new business, project or even relationship starts out exciting and fun. Then at some stage it gets much harder & becomes much less fun, until it hits its lowest point. This is called ‘The Dip’.
Seth says. At this point. Most people just quit and miss out on a potential success. In fact, many professions and marketplaces profit from quitters. Society assumes you’re going to quit. And some organisations event count on it for their profitability.
‘The Dip’ was written by Seth to educate people on the systems put in place to encourage quitting, so you’ll be more likely to beat them, and get through your own personal dip.
Yes, extraordinary benefits accrue those people who can push just that bit further and longer than most. But on the flip side, extraordinary benefits also accrue to those with the guts to quit early & refocus their energy in a new direction.
‘The Dip’ is a short entertaining book that helps you pick your shots very carefully, giving advice when best to persevere on or when to quit. And will forever alter the way you think about success.
As a business owner it’s sometimes hard to keep going, especially when dips appear without warning or reason. And for this. ‘The Dip’ gets 5-stars. For providing me with the motivation to persevere.
